President's Invitation

On behalf of the symposium organising committee and Environmental Health Professionals Australia I extend a warm invitation to you to attend our annual EHPA National Symposium held at the Mantra Lorne located on the beautiful coastal town of Lorne, Victoria, along the picturesque Great Ocean Road. This year’s event is titled “The Evolutionary Face of Environmental Health – Ride the Wave of Opportunity" which reflects the dynamic and ever changing political, legal, technological and scientific landscape. Our profession continues to evolve in more sophisticated and demanding work environments and as a profession we need to meet these challenges head on and seize the opportunities that present themselves. The theme highlights the need to continually identify new opportunities and possibilities, expand and establish new partnerships and expand our presence and position to influence and advocate for our profession and the communities we serve. The theme also reflects EHPAs mission and values of collaboration and partnerships, innovation and striving for excellence in professional practice.

The program illustrates how as a profession we have responded to significant number of contemporary and emerging issues, bringing together a wide range of skills, experience and perspectives to achieve exceptional results and which open up new possibilities that as a profession we need to embrace and "ride the wave of opportunity".  The program offers three days packed full of high calibre speakers, a wide range of presentations of significant and relevant topics, case studies, workshops and a number of field trips. I wish to acknowledge and thank our organising committee for the exceptional work that they have done and the vitally important partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as a key stakeholder to deliver this event.

As a profession we work to protect our environments for health and to continuously find ways to improve health outcomes. Expectations and demands continue to grow and to meet this demand we must continue to develop professionally. Symposiums such as this provide professional development opportunities to all Environmental Health Practitioners and other allied professionals as well as avenues for networking for all delegates. I look forward to seeing you all there and having an opportunity to share our experiences.
